Frozen Floods Hit Detroit! Man, what a mess.
A crazy January morning, 2023. Southwest Detroit flooded! Hundreds stranded, homes underwater. A water main, 54 inches, just burst! It was nuts.
The Great Lakes Water Authority, they knew. DWSD too, they scrambled. It was chaos, I tell ya. Total chaos.
Impact? Huge! Five feet of water in places! People trapped. It was awful. Seriously awful. I felt bad for them.
The response? Mayor Duggan, he was there. The DPD, they got the call at 2 a.m. They were amazing. They really were. They got people moving.
Timeline? 2 a.m., first call. Flooding started soon after. By 7:30 a.m., they found the leak. Phew! Water levels dropped eventually.
Lessons learned? Lots! Community preparedness is key. Better communication between agencies. We need better infrastructure maintenance. Seriously.
