Pennsylvania Governor Shapiro Unveils New Budget Proposal

Governor Josh Shapiro: Leadin’ Pennsylvania Forward

So, Governor Josh Shapiro, right? He’s been, like, really busy since he took office in 2019, I think? Man, time flies. This here’s a look at what he’s been up to, the good, the bad, and the kinda-ugly. I tried my best to get it all down, but honestly, keeping up with politics is a nightmare.

A Budget Proposal for a Brighter, Hopefully Less Broke Future

Okay, so big news: Shapiro’s got this 2023-24 budget thing, a whopping $33.4 billion! Plus, a 3.5% bump for education. Sounds good on paper, right? Hopefully, it actually helps schools, ’cause they’re really needin’ it. I mean, my niece’s school is practically falling apart.

Gun Control Legislation: A Step, Maybe?

After that awful Uvalde shooting, he made a task force for gun violence. It’s a start, I guess? But honestly, I’m still kinda nervous about it all. It feels like a drop in the bucket, you know? We need more than a task force. Seriously, more needs to be done.

COVID-19 Response: A Mixed Bag, To Say The Least

He lifted mask mandates and stuff in March 2022. I mean, I get it, people were tired. But, uh, the pandemic wasn’t exactly over. It was a bit of a mess, to be honest. Public health should always come first, even if it’s inconvenient.

Economic Development: Fingers Crossed

They’re pumpin’ $100 million into small businesses. That’s cool, right? Hopefully, it actually helps them, and doesn’t just go to some big corporation. I’m always skeptical of these things, but hey, I’ll take what I can get.

Accomplishments: A Kinda Messy List of Progress

Here’s what he’s supposedly done:

Accomplishment Description
Expansion of Medicaid Expanded Medicaid, helped a bunch of people get healthcare. That’s good, right?
Renewable Energy Wants 50% renewable energy by 2030. Ambitious! Let’s see if it happens.
Education Reform More money for special ed and teachers. About time! Seriously, teachers deserve so much more.

Upcoming Events: Stay Tuned

State of the State address was January 17th, 2023. The budget thing is up for debate in February. I’ll try to keep an eye on it, but no promises. Politics is exhausting.

Q&A

  • Q: Gun control? A: He’s for it, supposedly.
  • Q: COVID? A: Lifted mandates. ‘Nuff said.
  • Q: Economy? A: $100 million for small businesses. We’ll see.

Conclusion

Shapiro’s tryin’, I guess. It’s a mixed bag, but hey, at least he’s doing something. Keep an eye on things, folks. And remember to vote! Seriously, it matters. Even if it feels like it doesn’t.
