Alabama’s Overtime Tax Break: A Mess?

Big news, folks! Alabama’s changed its overtime tax rules. Effective January 1st, 2024, some folks get a break. It’s confusing, though. Seriously.

Full-time hourly workers, get this, only if they work over 40 hours a week. They’re exempt, supposedly. But there’s a catch. They gotta get paid by June 30th, 2025! Crazy, right? I’m still trying to figure this out.

Employers? You gotta report everything. Total overtime paid, and how many got it. The state wants to know! Check the Alabama Department of Revenue website. It’s a nightmare to navigate, I swear.

Part-timers? Maybe. If their overtime fits the Fair Labor Standards Act, they might qualify. But again, that June 30th, 2025 deadline applies. It’s a mess, I tell ya!

Remember these dates! Act 2023-421 ended September 30th. Act 2024-437 changed everything. I’m exhausted just writing this.

Need more info? Try the Alabama Department of Revenue site. Good luck with that. It’s a bureaucratic labyrinth. Seriously. I’m starting to think this whole thing is a joke.

So, what’s the deadline for reporting? June 30th, 2025. Who’s eligible? Full-time hourly workers, mostly. When do they need the money? Before June 30th, 2025. Got it? I barely do.

This new law? It’s supposed to help workers. But it’s a complicated mess. I’m hoping for clearer guidelines soon. This whole thing is a headache.
