Malakai: The Resilient Pet Green Iguana

So, autumn’s here, right? Leaves are fallin’, and for most of us, that means sweaters and pumpkin spice everything. But for Malakai, my awesome pet green iguana, it’s a whole different ball game. This here’s an update on my scaly buddy, Malakai, and all the crazy stuff that’s been goin’ on. He’s a good boy, really.

Shedding and Health: A Natural Process, Kinda Gross Tho

Malakai just shed his skin! I posted pics on Our Reptile Forum – it was kinda wild, like watching a snake, but, you know, an iguana. It’s a totally natural thing, but man, it’s weird seeing all that old skin. Took him, like, three days, I think? Maybe four? Time gets fuzzy sometimes.

Shedding process	Malakai sheds his skin in one piece, a process that took for-ev-er.
Nail trimming	I used nail clippers, not scissors, to get those lil’ spines off. They were stuck on pretty good! Ugh.
Head last to shed	His head was the last part, and he had this weird dark spot on his side afterwards. It’s gone now, though. Phew!

I’m super careful with him, you know? I don’t want to hurt the little guy. Those nail clippers were a lifesaver, honestly.

Environmental Changes: It’s Getting Cold Out There!

The water’s gotten colder! It went from 98F to, like, 84F. That’s a big drop! Poor Malakai, he needs his heat lamp. I’ve been keeping a close eye on him, making sure he’s warm enough. He seems okay, but I’m still a little worried. I’m thinking about getting him a new heat rock, maybe?
